Gearing up for Global Partnerships Week

With less than a week to go, the TPI team is getting excited about Global Partnerships Week 2017 in Washington D.C. Our colleagues, Katie Fry Hester and Todd Kirkbride, will be participating in a number of events, moderating a workshop on partnering chemistry, and running a 2.5 day training event.

The U.S. Department of State in collaboration with Concordia, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and PeaceTech Lab will kick off Global Partnerships Week (GPW) on Monday 6th March with a Global Partnerships Practitioners Forum. This, the third annual gathering will bring together partnership practitioners and leaders for all sectors to engage in discussion on common challenges and best practices, identify new partnership opportunities, and coordinate on collaborative solutions.

This year, the focus is on the role of partnerships in achieving the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. In addition to plenary sessions, the forum will include a series of workshops on topics including governance and legal issues, fostering innovation, negotiation, practical management, measurement & metrics; and SDG-themed breakout sessions exploring a range of issues such as human rights, economic opportunity and employment, human and natural environment, health, and infrastructure.

TPI will be moderating a workshop on ‘The Softer Side of Partnerships: Strengthening Relationship Health and Management‘, with panellists from HP, the World Wildlife Fund, and USAID’s Global Development Lab. The session will look at the importance of committing time and resources towards the relationship between partners in order to best harness their capabilities, resources and assets to deliver results. Take a look at TPI Associate Dave Prescott’s latest blog on how a little chemistry in the relationship goes a long way, and how that magical quality can be cultivated and supported.

GPW also includes a series of events run by partner organisations, including conferences, forums, panel sessions, and trainings. We will be running TPI’s flagship course, Building Effective Partnerships for Development, over 2.5 days from March 8th to 10th. Registration is still open but you’ll need to be quick as there are only a few places left!
