PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Professional competencies framework

TPI’s professional development is the result of over 20 years drawing out best practice in partnering. Covering both the ‘science’ and ‘art’ of partnering, we use a wide range of highly interactive and experiential training methods. Partnership training can be combined with coaching and mentoring support for continued professional capacity building. Our professional development incorporates the latest theory on what makes for successful collaboration.  It provides frameworks and tools to ensure participants leave with the competencies they need to broker and manage partnerships that deliver results.

TPI’s ‘MUST-have’ framework for professional partnering competencies has been developed over a number of years, based on the experiences of on-the-ground partnering practitioners.

TPI’s new online training course, Interpersonal alchemy: Mastering relationships for impact, focuses on building strong, effective professional relationships. You’ll gain deep insights into what drives human behaviour in professional relationships through an engaging mixture of theory, real-world examples, and practical exercises.

You’ll learn strategies for building rapport and trust quickly by understanding the psychology and nuances of interpersonal communication. Discover how to navigate diverse cultures, personalities, perspectives, and potential conflicts with emotional intelligence. Enhance your ability to truly listen, forge stronger empathy, and have a greater positive impact.

From initiating new relationships to breathing new life into established ones, you’ll walk away with the mindsets and skill sets to become a “relationship master“. Leverage the power of your network, expand your spheres of influence, enrich your personal relationships, and thrive in any situation that requires you to connect with others meaningfully.

TPI’s online training course, Partnering for Impact: Building effective partnerships for transformational development, focuses on developing skills and knowledge of multi-stakeholder partnerships, providing the opportunity for partnership practitioners to systematize existing knowledge and experience with clear frameworks, processes and practical tools.

The training course builds a shared language and full strategic understanding of how multi-stakeholder collaboration can deliver organisational goals more effectively. It provides individuals with knowledge of the building blocks for effective partnerships, a range of competencies and skills, and a complete set of tools to build and support collaboration.

The course is based on TPI’s flagship publication, developed with the UN, the SDG Partnership Guidebook, and other TPI resources. It is structured around five virtual seminars, with assigned reading and tasks for participants to contextualise the learning to their own situation in between the seminars. You will need to set aside three to four hours each of the five days, including the seminars, optional discussions and homework.

TPI has worked with organisations from all sectors to build capacity of their staff to be able to partner effectively. We can offer a range of courses, both in-person and online, to suit the needs of a particular organisation or partnership, and work closely with organisations to develop a programme which will be highly effective and applicable to the context in which the participants are working.

All TPI courses balance the delivery of core knowledge with interactive learning and peer-to-peer exchange. The courses are designed to combine theory with the practical application of learned skills and concepts using case studies and scenarios, group activities and individual reflection. Trainings can be fully customised.

Optionally, participants may choose to take the Certificate in Partnering Practice (see below).

After taking the TPI Effective Partnering Course, equivalent tailored training, or equivalent certified courses from other providers, participants are given the option to undertake the Certificate in Partnering Practice extension and, if successful, are awarded certification.

Certification is important for two main reasons. First, the process of certification extends the course through an additional element of guided self-reflective learning. Second, the certificate demonstrates externally that the holder has achieved a certain level of knowledge of partnering standards and competency in multi-sector partnering.
