David Murphy
David has extensive global-local experience of working on multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration with senior leaders and change agents in business, government, universities, NGOs, and the United Nations system, including related teaching, applied research and consultancy on partnerships for sustainable development.
Recent projects include: a review of the transformational potential of partnerships for the sustainable development goals (SDGs); developing collaboration competencies and promoting small business action for the SDGs in North West England, and capacity development work with Lancaster City Council, the local Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector and other partners, to map, analyse and assess collaborative efforts to develop localised SDG indicators.
Previous TPI activities included partnership strategy advice and partnering skills training for a wide range of UN agencies, NGOs, and businesses around the world.
David has an MSc in Comparative Development and International Policy, and a PhD in Business-NGO Relations on Sustainable Development from the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol.
His most recent books are: Citizenship and Sustainability: Exploring and spanning the boundaries (Routledge, 2021) and Partnerships for the Sustainable Development Goals (MDPI Books, 2021).
David is currently Associate Professor Sustainability and Collaborative Leadership and Academic Lead of the Initiative for Leadership and Sustainability (IFLAS), University of Cumbria. He also leads the university’s new Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme.
