Tom has 23-years experience in the NGO and development finance sectors. An accredited partnership broker, Tom’s main interest is the contribution that partnerships between the private sector, government and NGOs can make to addressing poverty and disadvantage. The range of activities that Tom can support include facilitating cross sector-partnerships, managing donor funded programmes and advising on organisational partnering strategy, facilitating meetings and workshops, and reviewing partnerships in order to learn how to increase their impact.
As an Associate of TPI, Tom managed The Partnering with Governments programme, which run in cooperation with GTZ (Germany) and a number of major companies including Microsoft, Rio Tinto, SAP, Shell and the Shell Foundation. He has also contributed and delivered programmes for UNICEF, World Vision and Flora and Fauna International.
Tom’s works covers two main areas:
- Supporting organisations that are committed to using the skills and resources of the private sector to contribute to sustainable international development; and
- Helping international NGOs and donor organisations to work in cross-sector partnership with companies to deepen their partnerships, making full use of the range of resources available from each other;
Tom has lived and worked in Tanzania, Malaysia, Malawi, Zambia and Uganda. He has made frequent work-related visits to Bangladesh, Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South-Africa and India and project management visits to Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Ecuador, Peru and the Philippines. He has visited many other countries across the world to meet project office staff, attend meetings and for business development purposes.
